What is Trauma?
Trauma is a psychological and emotional response to deeply distressing or life-threatening events. It can be caused by abuse, accidents, violence, loss, or any experience that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope. Trauma affects the brain’s stress response system, making it difficult to feel safe and secure in daily life.
✔ Types of Trauma:
- Acute Trauma – Results from a single distressing event (e.g., accidents, assaults).
- Chronic Trauma – Prolonged exposure to distressing experiences (e.g., abuse, neglect).
- Complex Trauma – Exposure to multiple traumatic events, often starting in childhood.
Trauma can manifest in PTSD, anxiety disorders, emotional numbness, and trust issues, impacting a person’s ability to form relationships and function in everyday life.
Who is Most Affected by Trauma?
